The last few days have been filled with portfolio work. Alas, no reports until now. However, our Sunday was full of unusual fun. The Oulu Days were going on (an event arranged every year in September, offering the Oulu residents a chance to try out new hobbies and to find out about new services in town). Tuomas and Rebekka are very much into trains right now so we thought we would go take a little ride.

Aunt Kirsi and cousins Allu and Aleksi were there too, which made Laura very happy:

The train is called 'lättähattu'. It was taken into use in the Oulu area in 1954 and was operating sort of as a local metro, transporting workers between home and the job. The last of these nostalgic little 'trains' was removed from traffic in 1988. I remember these well from the train rides in my childhood back in the 70's.

Later in the day, I got a very special treat of my own. I went to the Oulu Art Museum to see 'Usko', a photography exhibition built around the subject of faith and religion, portrayed by 9 different photographers. The photo below is Kalle Kataila's 'Avara kosketus', which was shown and also chosen for the exhibition's poster. The people in his photographs had (generally) been positioned in the middle of the photo, creating an immediate emotional charge and giving the viewer a very strong sense of being a part of that landscape.
