It's been a while since I last reported on trips. Might have been Paris last fall... Well, John's parents visit to Oulu meant that we could elope for a little trip for two - and we chose one of our favorite places to stay: Three Sisters in Tallinna.

Now some might wonder why globetrotters like ourselves (which is at least what we used to be) would choose a city that many feel is trodden by hoards of drunken tourists and inflated prices. We say dig a little deeper and see that charm can be found in your own backyard.

Tallinna's Three Sisters may just be the best kept secret of the Baltic region. The hotel has been created out of three old merchant houses dating back to 1362. This getaway hides in the most serene and scenic part of Tallinna's Old Town, and once you are inside it's unbelievably thick walls you can enjoy the luxury in peace and quiet.

We knew from previous experience that this hotel has some really magnificent rooms and this time ended up in one of their junior suites, complete with a freestanding tub in the bedroom. On our second day, we both enjoyed two-hour head to toe pamperings in their newly opened spa. After my treatment, I flowed back to the room only to find out that John had slipped out, brought back a delicious selection from the bakery down the street and had laid out a beautiful table complete with candles. Soooo sweet...

John enjoys the rare opportunity to read in peace.

The hotel is so nice that is difficult to leave the room once you are settled, but we did manage to wonder out on the cobbled streets, to visit the many cafes and little stores. We also had a very nice spread of sushi at Silk.

On our last day, we walked on and around the medieval walls of the city. It was a gorgeously foggy day, perfect for photography.
